Drierie wins SAFTA!

Sibusiso Ngobeni (Mvimbi), matriculant of 2004 and Vice-President of the RCL, has just been announced a SAFTA winner (SA Film and Television Award)!
Sibusiso has been a television producer and director for 11 years after graduating from the AFDA film School. He co-owns a television production company, Engage Entertainment, with two other business partners, of which he produced the award winning Kick IT television show. He was the Creator and Executive Producer of Kick It which broadcasted on SABC 2 through the SABC Education department.
The show had 13 episodes of compelling stories of individuals who were either still suffering from drug or alcohol abuse, or on the road to recovery or were recovered individuals who are in the process of picking up their pieces and rebuilding their lives. The aim of the series was to encourage people to address substance abuse and most preferably even stay away from consuming alcohol or drugs. This was funded through the Gauteng Province Department of Social Development. The Soul City Institute was the NPO that ran the entire campaign called Keep It 100. The MEC for Gauteng Education, mr Panyaza Lesufi, was so impressed with the series that he even suggested that maybe this series should be part of the curriculum in Gauteng Schools.
The category that the show won at the SAFTA's was called Best Factual Educational Programme. I just hope to see more Drieries like myself and Mayor Bongani Baloyi raising the Drierie flag high.
I also thank the school a lot because it was because of Ms Swart that I fell in love with Drama. Even though the University of Cape Town had accepted me to study Economics & Politics, I chose to follow the passion Ms Swart introduced me to.
Well done Sibusiso! It is heartwarming to hear from Drieries being successful!
