The Con Amorè Orchestra (CAO)
The Con Amorè Orchestra (CAO) is coordinated by the Hoërskool Drie Riviere Conservatoire. By realizing that the Vaal Triangle does not offer a lot of music activities within its local communities and surrounding schools, the orchestra extends welcome opportunities to learners from surrounding schools, including home-schooled learners, who have an interest in taking part in music. The orchestra is not very traditional and loves to experiment with different combinations of instruments and tries to explore multiple genres of music. Participants range from absolute beginners to learners who have completed multiple practical exams. They make the best out of what is available to them. They accept any school learners ranging from the age of 10 to 18 years (grades 4 – 12).
The orchestra actively takes part in art festivals, eisteddfods, competitions, concerts and collaborations as well as the annual South African School Band Association (SASBA) national championships. During the 1990s the CAO undertook tours to Brive, France and twice to Rèunion Island to take part in International Orchestrades. They took part in the WASBE Tygerberg Fanfare in 1999, 2002 and 2006. In 2009 the CAO toured Vienna, Austria to take part in the International Youth Orchestra Eisteddfod. They also actively tour across the country, traveling to the Western Cape (Cape Town) in 2006 and 2012, KwaZulu-Natal (Durban) in 2018, Mpumalanga (Secunda) in 2022, and is planning a tour to the Eastern Cape (Port Elizabeth) in 2023.
Their motto is “All for one and one for all”!
